Aquatic Integrative Psychotherapy ~ Birthing of the Self
Authentic movement and safety are integral to our survival and well being. Warm water evokes feelings of support and is an excellent medium for movement-based psychotherapy. Attentiveness and support allow clients to unwind long held tension patterns and physical armoring.
These may be associated with tension, fears, depression, shock or trauma imprints in the nervous system. As these somatic memories and constrictions release, playful movement emerges. The healing is internalized on a deep tissue level that goes beyond what most people can imagine.
Sessions often have the quality of renewal, where the true self is brought forward and liberated. This is reminiscent of prenatal life, sounds are muffled and
time stops. Movement and gravity become a slow motion dance of submergence and
emergence, waves, rolls, twists, inversion and quiet stillness. This practice of
"Waterdance" offers a freedom beyond what can be experienced on land.
